Three Little Things I Love About Taiwan
Taiwan was never on my list of countries to visit. Although it is the home of Dao Ming Si, Shan Chai, and the rest of the F4 which was a big part of my childhood, I still did not consider to spend vacation in Taiwan. I got interested in giving it a try after my best friend's recent trip. She said that I can survive in Taiwan even with a very little budget. Fast forward to March, I chance upon a seat sale from Cebu Pacific. I immediately messaged my friends and asked who among them is willing to spend a vacation with me in Taiwan. Luckily, my dear friend Mary agreed to come and celebrate my birthday in the heart of Asia.
So, what are the three little things that made me say that my recent Taiwan trip was all worth it?
1. Easy to go around the city
Having a very limited budget for this trip, Mary and I decided to stay in the city and explore what it has to offer. Exploring places means hopping from one train to the other to reach your destination. I love how convenient it is to use the trains. We didn't have a hard time figuring out the train system which made it easy for us to go around.
If you're the kind who wants to immerse himself/herself in the city by walking around then you gotta love Taipei. It is a very walkable city which brought us from one place to the other by letting our legs and feet do the work.
City bikes are also available in almost every corner of the city. If only I am confident about my biking skills then I would have given it a try.
2. Open spaces
I noticed that there are a lot of open spaces and parks around Taipei. I was hoping to visit Daan Park and 228 Peace Memorial Park but didn't have enough time to do so. But don't worry because there are a lot of parks within your reach. There's this park with families and teenagers playing around with their skateboards that we discovered on our way to Ximending. There is another park located across Taipei 101 where we spent a little while to appreciate the beauty of the building and take a good rest.
3. Free taste
Who wouldn't enjoy free taste? I love how generous the Taiwanese are in giving away free taste! We enjoyed it too much that we were already saying no because we were too full. The video below is just one of the many stores we visited to buy Taiwan delicacies. A dedicated staff will offer you almost everything they have. I had too much pineapple cake that I decided not to get one anymore. Haha! I recommend Ximending to grab your
Taiwan is yet to be visa-free for us, Filipinos. But if you happen to have visa from Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, any of the Schengen countries, UK, and US s then all you need to do is secure a travel certificate to visit Taiwan.
Been to Taipei already? Share with me the little things that made you fall in love with the country.
